While this project is mostly for the joy of writing and sharing poetry, it’s also a great way to practice and develop a sense of poetic writing by fledgling poets.
The Poetry for People Project touches upon the Common Core Standards for English Language Arts. Many states in the U.S. have either adopted the Common Core Standards, or are considering them. One of the biggest differences between many state standards and the Common Core are integration of technology standards within the content standards, rather than keeping them separate. Through this project, teachers and students can explore how the Common Core Standards are be applied to an online community focused on writing, publishing, and collaborating through daily visual poetry prompts.
